Light Draws Breath is a BRZRKR one-shot written by Season Butler and China Miéville and illustrated by Alessio Avallone. Set within the universe created by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, the story expands the mythology of the immortal warrior known as B., whose life has stretched across thousands of years of human history.

In this story, B. has once again been killed – briefly. Before his body can fully reconstitute, two renegade scientists siphon a fragment of his protoplasm and inadvertently bring something new into being. The resulting entity must discover what it is, how its strange powers work, and how to survive in a world already eager to control it.

Drawing on historical figures, episodes from the secret history of alchemy, and the long arc of BRZRKR’s violent universe, Light Draws Breath follows the emergence of a consciousness struggling to understand its own nature – and what it might mean to become human.
